Air Toxicology and Epidemiology
OEHHA is responsible for conducting health risk assessments of chemical contaminants in air. In addition, OEHHA reviews site-specific risk assessments under the Air Toxics Hot Spots program and is developing risk assessment guidance, some of which has been completed, for use in site-specific risk assessment (see Air Toxics Hot Spots). OEHHA also makes health-based recommendations to the Air Resources Board (ARB) for ambient air quality standards, and provides health-risk related assistance and consultation to the ARB, air pollution control districts, local health officers, and environmental health officers. OEHHA plans and conducts epidemiological investigations related to criteria air pollutants.
