The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) and the Southern California Particle Center and Supersite (SCPCS) at UCLA are pleased to announce a meeting on Issues in the Assessment of Health Impacts of Gasoline Emissions in California. The meeting will be held at the UCLA Faculty Center on June 12-13, 2001. This meeting is a follow up to a similar meeting held at OEHHA in Oakland in June 2000. Topic areas include:

  • Characterization of emissions from gasoline-powered mobile sources in California
  • Source apportionment of gasoline-related substances
  • Exposure assessment of gasoline-related substances
  • Carbonyl compounds as an exposure concern for gasoline-related sources
  • Toxicology and health effects of gasoline emissions

The meeting will be relatively small, with 17 expert speakers and 80-100 attendees in a classroom-style setting. Panel discussions on the meeting topics will follow speaker presentations. A general session will discuss issues of research design and future research needs. A detailed agenda will be available later in April.

We have assembled an impressive group of experts to speak at the meeting including:

  • George Alexeeff, OEHHA
  • Roger Atkinson, University of California Riverside and SCPCS
  • David Bates, University of British Columbia
  • Glen Cass, Georgia Technological University and SCPCS
