On April 8, 2005 the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) announced a May 9, 2005 public workshop to explore a potential regulatory action exempting from the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (hereafter Proposition 65 or the Act) warning requirements, exposures to listed chemicals that form from natural constituents in food during cooking or heat processing. Comments related to this potential action were to be submitted by May 9, 2005. At the request of several interested parties, OEHHA extended the comment period to Monday, May 23, 2005 to allow workshop attendees and other interested parties the benefit of the discussions at the workshop in formulating their comments. At the May 9 workshop, requests were renewed to extend the comment period further to allow the public to review the transcript from the workshop which is expected to be available within the next two weeks. Accordingly, OEHHA is announcing the extension of the comment period for this workshop to June 6, 2005. Any written statements or arguments regardless of the form or method of transmission must be received by OEHHA by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2005, in order to be included in the initial consideration of this issue. Further opportunities for public comment will be available in the event OEHHA proposes a formal regulatory action.
