On January 20, 2012, the California Environmental Protection Agency’s (Cal/EPA) Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) published a Notice of Intent to List Benzophenone (CAS No. 119-61-9), Coconut oil diethanoamine condensate (cocamide diethanolamine) (CAS No. 68603-42-9), Diethanolamine (CAS No. 111-42-2), and 2-Methylimidazole (CAS No. 693-98-1) as known to the State to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.  The Act, commonly known as Proposition 65, is codified in Health and Safety Code section 25249.5 et seq.  This action is being taken pursuant to the Labor Code mechanism contained in Health and Safety Code section 25249.8(a).

OEHHA has received a request from an interested party seeking an extension of the comment period.  OEHHA hereby extends the public comment period for the four chemicals to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 Friday, April 6, 2012.

Because these are ministerial listings, comments should be limited to whether the International Agency for Research on Cancer has identified the specific chemical or substance as a known or potential human or animal carcinogen.

We encourage you to submit comments in electronic form, rather than in paper form.  Comments transmitted by e-mail should be addressed to P65Public.Comments@oehha.ca.gov, and should include “NOIL” and the chemical name in the subject line.  Comments submitted in paper form may be mailed, faxed, or delivered in person to the addresses below:
