Designated chemicals

Designated chemicals are the pool of chemicals from which the highest priority chemicals are selected for biomonitoring.  Designated chemicals consist of those chemicals that are included in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) national biomonitoring program, as well as additional chemicals meeting certain criteria, that are recommended by the CECBP’s Scientific Guidance Panel (SGP).  For a list of designated chemicals, select this link.

For more details on the process for determining designated chemicals, see “Chemical Selection Process.“ For more information on the chemicals selected by CDC, see “National Biomonitoring Program.”  For more information on the recommendations of the SGP, as well as links to presentations to the SGP on specific chemicals and chemical classes, see “Reports, Presentations, and Other Documents.”

Priority chemicals

Priority chemicals are a subset of the designated chemicals.  They include those chemicals that are priorities for biomonitoring in California. For a list of priority chemicals, select this link.
