Announcement of Document Availability
Publishing of the Final Report Chemicals in Fish: Consumption of Fish and Shellfish in California and the United States
[11/09/01]
The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) of the California Environmental Protection Agency announces the availability of the Final Report Chemicals in Fish: Consumption of Fish and Shellfish in California and the United States. The first final draft of the document has been posted on the OEHHA Web site since September 19, 1997, and the public comment period for this document began September 19, 1997 and ended October 31, 1997. In addition, a one-day public workshop was held on October 29, 1997, at the California Department of Health Services, 2151 Berkeley Way, Room 136, in Berkeley, California to discuss the scientific basis and recommendations in the draft document. Oral and written comments received from the public at the workshop and during the public review and scientific comment period, as well as from reviewers at the University of California system and other academic institutions were considered during revisions of the document. After the workshop, public input, and scientific peer review, OEHHA has incorporated responses to major comments received and is providing the final document.
As indicated in previous announcements, the workshop as well as the public review and scientific comment periods were held to encourage a dialogue between OEHHA scientists and the public to discuss the recommendations and to receive comments. Following the workshop and scientific and public input, OEHHA has revised the document as appropriate. This announcement of the Final Report is published in the California Regulatory Notice Register and posted on the OEHHA Web site.
The Final Report is based on an extensive review of fish consumption surveys conducted throughout the United States, and includes a critical evaluation of these studies. The information and recommendations contained in the report are planned to be used for supporting the functions and activities of various state programs including development of fish advisories, development of water quality objectives for environmental contaminants, and other exposure-related assessments.
A copy of the report is available at the Internet Web Site of OEHHA, http://www.oehha.ca.gov.
